Immunohematology
Course Description
This course will provide the student with an introduction to the field of Immunohematology (Blood Banking). Emphasis will be placed on the immunologic and genetic basis for the study of red cell antigen/antibody systems, a discussion of the basic principles of transfusion therapy and of the physiologic and pathophysiologic consequences of foreign antigen exposure. The laboratory session will provide the student with an introduction to the techniques employed in the field with emphasis on a broad survey of multiple techniques rather than absolute proficiency in a few. Cross-list with CDS 4240. Credit can be received for only one course.
