Electromagnetic Compatibility

Course Description

Review of EM basics related to ENMC applications. Analysis of EMI sources and receivers. Signal spectra, conducted and radiated emissions. Transmission line cross-talk. Introduction to shielding, filtering, and grounding. Electrostatic discharges (ESD). Circuit and system immunity. Signal spectra, conducted and radiated emissions. EMC requirements for component and system levels. US and European standards and their origin. Automotive EMC standards. EMC issues in vehicle multiplexing communication. With laboratory. Formerly EE 546, ECE 546. Credit cannot be received for more than one of EE 546, ECE 546, ECE 5320. Prerequisites: Undergraduate courses in electronic circuit design, electromagnetics, and communication systems
