Fuel Cell Science and Technology

Course Description

Fundamental principles of fuel cells. Thermodynamics, electrochemistry, material and transport processes governing fuel cell operation. Structure and operation of various types of fuel cells. Proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell modeling, design and testing. Fuel cell stack and system. Hydrogen generation, delivery and storage. Includes project. This course is cross-listed with an undergraduate course.  Credit cannot be received for both ME 5525 and ME 4525. Prerequisite(s): An understanding of basic physics and chemistry is needed. Formerly ME 537 and ME 6530.
